Kogi NYSC coordinator died in auto crash

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) community in Kogi State was thrown into mourning on Friday following the news that the Kogi State Coordinator of the Corps, Mrs. Oludolapo Ahile, died in a ghastly auto crash.

The Assistant Director, Public Relations, Kogi NYSC, Mr Adedapo Tayo, told journalists in Lokoja on Friday that the coordinator was involved in a ghastly accident alongside her husband, Michael, on Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia highway in Nasarawa State.

According to Tayo, the accident occurred at Lafia axis of the highway at about 2pm on Thursday, May 16, after her vehicle suddenly somersaulted twice and veered into the bush while all the tires were intact.

Tayo added that the late coordinator and her husband with two other occupants were on their way to Tiv land in Benue State for the burial of her father in-law.

He said that all the four occupants of the vehicle were rushed to Lafia Specialist Hospital but regretted that, “unfortunately, Ahile died in the early hours of Friday, May 17.”

He said that her husband, the driver and one other person survived the crash but sustained injuries, saying they were still hospitalised.

Tayo said the NYSC management had directed that the husband should be moved to the Specialist Hospital, Abuja, for adequate medical attention, noting that he was a director in the NYSC before he retired.

‘’Appreciation goes to Governor Yahaya Bello who has sent the Chairman, NYSC State Governing Board, who also doubles as the Commissioner for Youth and Sport Development, Sani Ogu, on a condolence visit to the state secretariat of NYSC,’’ he said.
