World Leaders Won’t Attend Buhari’s Inauguration ― FG

Buhari

World leaders have not been invited for the May 29, 2019 inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term in office, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has disclosed.

He told State House correspondents in Abuja on Monday that government has decided to make the ceremony a low key affair.

Mohammed stated that the decision was taken at the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

He, however, said that the world leaders are expected to grace the celebration of Democracy Day on June 12, 2019.

In line with this, he said, invitations have been sent to all world leaders to attend the ceremonies marking the observance of the Democracy Day on June 12.

He added: “Since the first observance of June 12 as Democracy Day falls into an election year, and as a measure to sustain June 12 as Democracy Day, the celebration of the inauguration and the advancement of democracy in the country will now take place on June 12.”

He added that the country can ill-afford two major celebrations within a two-week interval.

He said the details of the events slated for the two ceremonies will be unveiled later.
