On Sunday November 10th, billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola, shook the nation when he made a whooping N5 billion donation to the Save the Children Foundation at his daughter, DJ Cuppy’s Gold Gala, in Abuja.

Below, we have decided to put together eight things you may not know about him:

1  Otedola was born in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 1962, to Sir Michael Otedola, Governor of   Lagos State from 1992 to 1993.

2 As a child, Otedola wanted to be a Reverend Father but his business instinct started quite early.

3 Otedola cannot sing nor dance to save his life but he enjoys attending music and comedy shows.

4 In 2012, Otedola was involved in a bribery scandal. It was reported that the businessman bribed Boniface Emenalo and Farouk Lawan, who was then the Chairman of the House Committee on Fuel Subsidy Regime a sum of $620,000. An evidence where Otedola was caught red-handed in a video of him giving a bribe and Farouk Lawan accepting it emerged.

5 Apart from the recent N5 billion donation, Otedola has always been a cheerful giver. He has made several donations to the Michael Otedola University Scholarship Scheme established to give underprivileged students in Lagos access to higher education. In 2005, Otedola made a N300 million personal donation to the completion of the National Ecumenical Centre—Nigeria’s primary place of Christian worship—in Abuja. In 2007, he was among a group of donors who gave N200 million to the State Security Trust Fund in a drive to reduce crime in Lagos State. These are just a few of his nice gestures.

6 Otedola was once a victim of blackmail. In December 2016, two Toronto-based sisters—Jyoti and Kiran Matharoo— tried to extort him, claiming they had evidence of Otedola cheating on his wife.

7 Otedola married his wife, Nana, after they gave birth to their first daughter.

8 Although Otedola’s most popular child is DJ Cuppy, he also has two daughters and a son.  Tolani is a singer while Temi is a style blogger and aspiring designer. Unfortunately, Fewa, who is Otedola’s only son, is suffering from autism.
